Shogi is Japanese chess, and the key way it differs from regular chess is that when you take your opponent pieces, you keep them, and can 'drop' them back on the board later. It's pretty popular in Japan so you often see it in anime and Japanese art, but it's not very well known in the UK.

March 2014 meeting will be on 29.03.2014
There will be a Saturday meeting of the London Shogi Club on 29.03.2014. There should be someone around from 11.30am until at least 2pm at Caffe Nero, 10 Bedford Street, London WC2E 7HE.
Everyone is very welcome, regardless of strength or experience.
The nearest rail station is Charing Cross. Embankment, Covent Garden and Leicester Square underground stations are close, but it's best to check which lines are running with Transport for London.

Walthamstow Shogi Tournament will be on 12 April 2014
A one day shogi tournament will be held in Walthamstow, East London on Saturday 12th April. All players are very welcome, regardless of strength or experience.
Entries should be sent by email to Steven Cain, webmaster at Shogi London.
There will be an entry fee of £10 payable at the venue. There will be no cash prize but there may be book prizes or other goodies.
