2 online shogi tournaments in August 2020

There are no shogi club meetings at the moment, but two shogi tournaments which would otherwise be held 'face to face' are holding online versions.

FESA, the organisation which runs the European Shogi Championships has announced that it will hold the 1st European Online Shogi Blitz Championship on August 9th (July 25, 2020). The tournament is open to all European shogi players. It will be a knockout tournament with max. 128 participants and a thinking time of 5 min. + 10 sec. byoyomi. The full tournament information can be found here. Registrations have to be made on the tournament page by August 8th, CEST 16:00 (UTC 14:00).

The Mind Sports Olympiad, normally held in London in the last week in August is being held virtually. This will include a shogi tournament on 30th August at 3.30pm-6pm. It will be played on 81dojo with a time control of 15mins + 30 seconds byo-yomi.  See www.msoworld.com for more details of the Mind Sports Olympiad.

London April 2020 virtual meeting on 25.04.2020

There will be no face to face meeting of the London Shogi Club in April 2020, but there will be a virtual meeting on Saturday 25.04.2020. We will probably run from 11am to 1pm.

I will be logging on to the 81dojo website at around 11am with username ShogiLondon. There are currently only two attending. If you want to join in and have not already asked me for details of the Zoom meeting, message me.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of strength or experience.

Possible virtual April London meeting on 25.04.2020

There will be no face to face meeting of the London Shogi Club in April 2020, but if people are interested we can have a virtual meeting on Saturday 25.04.2020.

We did this in March, using a combination of the jitsi chatroom and 81dojo. That didn't work perfectly, so if we have a virtual meeting it will be by using Zoom and 81dojo. People will need to use the Zoom software

If we go ahead, I log on to the 81dojo website at around 11am while also setting up a Zoom meeting. We can have breakout rooms so that people can play games and chat without interruptions, or if preferred, we can analyse some games.

If you are interested, then request joining details for the Zoom meeting before Saturday by
Everyone is very welcome, regardless of strength or experience.

London 81dojo experiment will be on 28.03.2020

There will be no face to face meeting of the London Shogi Club in March 2020, but we will try out having a virtual meeting on Saturday 28.03.2020.

The current plan is that I will be logging on to the 81dojo website at around 11am with username ShogiLondon. If you are interested in a virtual meet up then please log on and message me. We will probably also operate a Zoom chatroom or Discord or similar - details to be provided on the day.

Everyone is very welcome, regardless of strength or experience. However, at the moment I'm mostly aiming this at previous attendees of the London club, because it's a bit of an experiment. If it works then we will probably run from 11am to 1pm before having a break for lunch.

No London meeting in March 2020

We do not expect there to be a face to face meeting of the London Shogi Club in March 2020, having regard to the government's advice on social distancing. We are considering options for a virtual or online meet up, and if we are able to arrange something we will announce it here.
