Reminder: London March 2026 and tournament in May

There will be a meeting of the London Shogi Club on 28.03.2026. 

We are currently playing in the basement room at Starbucks on Cowcross St, Farringdon. Do check downstairs, as you won't see anyone upstairs. There should be someone around from 11.00am until at least 2pm. Everyone is very welcome, regardless of strength or experience.

The next tournament in the UK will be the Inter City Shogi Cup 2026, which will be held in London on the 9-10 May weekend.  Full information and registration pages can be found on the Inter City Shogi Cup website

    Planned London shogi meetings and other activity in 2026

    We thought people might find it useful to know when we expect the London shogi meetings will be later in 2026, together with information on other shogi activity. The dates below are pretty firm but may change due to unforeseen circumstances, so always check announcements on Shogi London.

    July
    London club members will be teaching and promoting shogi at HyperJapan from 24-26 July.

    European Shogi Championships in Paderborn, Germany from 6-9 August
    There may be shogi in London toward the end of August at the Mind Sports Olympiad (to be confirmed)

    September
    London meeting on 26 September

    October
    London meeting on 31 October

    November
    London meeting on 28 November
    There might be a tournament in November

    December
    London meeting on 12 December

    The above list mentions the European Shogi Championship / World Open Shogi Championship which will be held in Germany in August. Information on other European shogi events can be found on the Federation of European Shogi Associations (FESA) website.

    London March 2026 meeting will be on 28.03.2026



    There will be a meeting of the London Shogi Club on 28.03.2026. We hold these meetings monthly where possible, normally on the last Saturday of the month. Always check to see if we are meeting, and which day we are meeting on.

    We are currently playing in the basement room at Starbucks on Cowcross St, Farringdon. Do check downstairs, as you probably won't see anyone upstairs. There should be someone around from 11.00am until at least 2pm.

    Everyone is very welcome, regardless of strength or experience.

    The nearest tube station is Farringdon. Barbican station is also close. It's best to check which lines are running with Transport for London.

    Additionally the British Shogi Championships were held on 14-15 March, and the results are published in the Shogi London Tournament blog.

    Online Kishin shogi tournament leading up to event at the 2026 European championship

    The 12th Shogi Wars Kishin Tournament will be played online for three qualification rounds, and in Paderborn, Germany during the European Shogi Championship / World Open Shogi Championship.

    All participants will be rewarded a digital “Shogi Wars item”.
    Attractive prize money awaits the winners of the finals.General

    Qualification Tournaments:
    February 22nd  12:00 – 14:00 UTC
    April 26th         12:00 – 14:00 UTC
    June 21st           12:00 – 14:00 UTC

    Final Tournament:
    August 07th, 2026 in Paderborn during the ESC/WOSC.

    London February 2026 meeting, tournament reminder and shogi film

    In addition, we would remind you that the British Shogi Championships will be held on the 14-15 February 2026. All are welcome and you can register for the tournament here.

    We have also been asked to publicise The Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme 2026 which will be running from February through to the end of March, and will be screening The Final Piece, a mystery thriller featuring shogi. Could be interesting although I don't know that it will improve your game.

    Reminder: British Open Shogi Championships on 14-15 February 2026 - also May tournament

    The British Open Shogi Championships will be held on 14-15 February 2026 at the London Mindsports Centre. The tournament is open to players of all abilities and of all nationalities.

    The tournament will be held over 7 rounds. We will also be going out for a meal on Saturday evening.  More details are on this dedicated tournament page.

    Additionally, there will be a tournament in London on the 9-10 May weekend.  This will be another tournament in the Inter City Shogi Cup format played in Germany in March 2025. More details will follow. You can register for the tournament at this link.
