Shogi is Japanese chess, and the key way it differs from regular chess is that when you take your opponent pieces, you keep them, and can 'drop' them back on the board later. It's pretty popular in Japan so you often see it in anime and Japanese art, but it's not very well known in the UK.

European Shogi Championships 2012
The European Shogi Championships 2012 will be held on 12-15 July in Kraków, Poland.
