British Shogi Championships on 14-15 February 2026

The London Shogi club is delighted to announce a 2 day British Open Shogi Championships tournament on the weekend of 14-15 February 2026.

The nearest tube station is Ravenscourt Park. The two Hammersmith stations are a bit further away. It takes 30-50 minutes to get to the venue from the main London railway stations, and 40 minutes from Heathrow airport.

You can register for the tournament on this dedicated tournament page, which will be updated with further information as we get nearer to the tournament date.

The tournament entry fee will be £30, but we will offer a discounted rate of £20 to beginner players who have not played in a tournament before and therefore do not have a FESA rating.

We plan to hold 4 rounds on the Saturday from about 10am to 6pm, and 3 rounds on the Sunday from around 10am to 4pm.

The winner of the tournament will be the British open champion. There will also be a mechanism to award the title of British closed champion.

The exact format will be determined based on the number of entries and the range of grades, but will be based on the Swiss system with one or more tournament groups. If there are a large number of new and ungraded players we will either run a side event for beginner players, or award a title to the best beginner performance in the main event.

The planned time limit for games will be in accordance with FESA rating requirements and will be 40 minutes + 30 seconds byoyomi. It may be necessary to use a different time limit for later games if the tournament is running late. There are lots of places to eat near the venue. We will be arranging dinner at one of these on Saturday evening and if you would like to join us let us know so that we can plan numbers.
