Information on the London Shogi Club, shogi events in or near London, and occasional other stuff. Shogi is Japanese chess, and the key way it differs from regular chess is that when you take your opponent pieces, you keep them, and can 'drop' them back on the board later. It's pretty popular in Japan so you often see it in anime and Japanese art, but it's not very well known in the UK.

UK qualification tournament IMPORTANT INFORMATION
We don't yet have many entries for the qualification tournament on 03.06.2017.
If the number of entries remains small, we may change venue.
So please don't turn up on Saturday without registering by email with David Faldon.

May 2017 meeting will be on 27.05.2017
There will be a Saturday meeting of the London Shogi Club on 27.05.2017. There should be someone around from 11.00am until at least 2pm at Caffe Nero, 10 Bedford Street, London WC2E 7HE.
Everyone is very welcome, regardless of strength or experience.
The nearest rail station is Charing Cross. Embankment, Covent Garden and Leicester Square underground stations are close, but it's best to check which lines are running with Transport for London.

UK qualification tournament for 7th International Shogi Forum will be on 03.06.2017
The British Shogi Federation has been asked to provide a representative for the 7th International Shogi Forum to be held in Kitakyushu, Japan, in October 2017. Only British passport holders are eligible to be selected. A qualification tournament will be held on Saturday 3rd June.
The exact format of the tournament depends on the number of entries.
We plan to start at 10 am, so players should aim to arrive a little before this.
