Shogi London Supplement has been updated with some photos from the British Shogi Championship in May 2009.
The photos are here.
Apologies to Edward Ishiyama, who provided the photos in May!
Information on the London Shogi Club, shogi events in or near London, and occasional other stuff. Shogi is Japanese chess, and the key way it differs from regular chess is that when you take your opponent pieces, you keep them, and can 'drop' them back on the board later. It's pretty popular in Japan so you often see it in anime and Japanese art, but it's not very well known in the UK.

28 November 2009 meeting reminder
The London Shogi Club is meeting on 28 November 2009. David Faldon will be around from 10am until at least 2pm at Caffe Nero, 10 Bedford Street, London WC2E 7HE. [map]
Everyone is very welcome, regardless of strength or experience.
The nearest rail station is Charing Cross. Embankment, Covent Garden and Leicester Square underground stations are close, but it's best to check which lines are running with Transport for London
If you want to confirm attendance, feel free to let us know by leaving a comment or sending an email.

Results of 3rd World Shogi Championship Tournament 2009
This tournament was held in New York on 14-15 November 2009, and I (Steven Cain) was lucky enough to be attending as the British representative, although I did not last long in a very strong field of amateur competitors from across the world.
I may write about my trip on Shogi London Supplement but for the moment I will note that the tournament was won very impressively by Paul Ogi, and that a short report has been posted on Shogi-L by Larry Kaufman here. Larry expects to provide more detail when this becomes available.
