Reminder: London September 2025 meeting will be on 20.09.2025

Just a reminder people that the September meeting is this weekend on 20.09.2025. 

We will be in the basement room at Starbucks on Cowcross St, Farringdon. Do check downstairs, as you won't see anyone upstairs. There should be someone around from 11.00am until at least 2pm.

Everyone is very welcome, regardless of strength or experience.

The nearest tube station is Farringdon. Barbican station is also close. It's best to check which lines are running with Transport for London.

Shogi teaching workshops on 11 October 2025

The London Shogi Club is delighted to announce that Yasushi Ishikawa, 4 dan teaching professional is back in the UK for another teaching event. Those of you who came to our event in May will know that he is a great teacher and this is a fantastic opportunity to see him again.

The Japan Society have arranged for teaching workshops to be run at the Daiwa Foundation near Regent's Park on 11 October 2025.  There is a beginners workshop in the morning, and a mid / advanced workshop in the afternoon. Registration is £3 per session, and details are on this Japan Society booking page

Booking is currently open to members of The Japan Society. Bookings will be generally open from 28 August. Please be sure to mention that you are a London Shogi Club member when booking.

London September 2025 meeting will be on 20.09.2025

The next meeting of the London Shogi Club will be in September on Saturday 20.09.2025 We hold these meetings monthly where possible, normally on the last Saturday of the month but this time we are a week early. Always check to see if we are meeting, and which day we are meeting on.

Shogi at the Mindsports Olympiad on 18.08.2025

As previously mentioned in Shogi London, there will be a shogi tournament next Monday as part of the Mindsports Olympiad in JW3 in the week beginning 17 August.   You can play shogi and many other games. Details of the event are here.  

The shogi is on Monday 18.08.2025 from 10:00 to 16:00.  The cost of entry for the shogi tournament is £15, unless you decide to buy an 'all you can play' ticket for £160 and play as many different games as you can fit into the schedule.

After that, the next meeting of the London Shogi Club will be in September on Saturday 20.09.2025.

London August 2025 meeting will be on 02.08.2025

There will be a meeting of the London Shogi Club on Saturday 02.08.2025. We hold these meetings monthly where possible. Normally on the last Saturday of the month, but our August meeting is early. 

The shogi club is at Starbucks on Cowcross St, Farringdon. Do check downstairs, as you won't see anyone upstairs. There should be someone around from 11.00am until at least 2pm. 

Everyone is very welcome, regardless of strength or experience.

The London shogi club is free and we don't pay for the venue but we do welcome any donations that attendees might like to make.This money will be used to support tournaments which are run at paid for venues.  

There will also be a shogi tournament later in August as part of the Mindsports Olympiad in JW3. You can play shogi and many other games if you want to in the week beginning 17 August. Pricing depends on how many games you want to play. The shogi is on Monday 18.08.2025 at 10:00. Details of the event are here

Shogi later in July 2025

The July London shogi meeting was held on 05.06.2025. 

There will be no shogi club on the final weekend of the month - the next club meeting will be Saturday 02.08.2025

This is because the European Shogi Championship is being held in Wroclaw Poland from 25-27 July. There are also side events from the 24th. Details can be found on the ESC/WOSC 2025 website   

If you are going to the European, there is also a Shogi Wars Kishin tournament on the Shogi Wars app. Details of the qualifying and main event can be found in this FESA website announcement 

The London shogi team will be giving shogi demonstrations at the Hyper Japan festival from 18-20 July. This is a paid for event for people interested in things Japanese.

There will be a meeting of the London Shogi Club on Saturday 05.07.2025. We hold these meetings monthly where possible. Normally on the last Saturday of the month, but our July meeting is early as we didn't have a club meeting in June.

There will also be shogi demonstrations at the London Strategy Games Festival at the London Mindsports Centre on 29.06.2025 along with demonstrations of many other games, and e.g. discussion of game design. This is a paid for event - £25 until 15 June and £30 thereafter.
